Solutions for Whatever Reason You Need to Know What a Business is Worth

NorthStar has the Experience, Expertise and Tools to Give You an Accurate Valuation for Your Company

When it comes to business valuations, there can be literally dozens of valid and important
reasons you need to know what a company is worth. Given those unique circumstances, our
first step in the business valuation process is to clearly understand exactly what your needs
and objectives are related to this project. From there we can create a plan of action that
specifically addresses your situation and ultimately provides you with the type of analysis and
report you need.

So, why do you need a business valuation? Whatever your reason, NorthStar has a solution
for you! Read more below about your options.

NorthStar's No Cost, No Obligation Business Market Valuation & Sellability Analysis (the VSA™)

NorthStar’s VSA™ utilizes a proprietary process to provide you with as much critical information about the market value and sellability of your company as possible. This is a free valuation report we offer exclusively to potential sell-side clients that are seriously considering the sale of their companies in the near future.

We understand that for most business owners the next business they sell will be the first business they sell. Oftentimes the hardest part of what feels like an overwhelming process is just taking that first step - that's  exactly what the VSA™ is designed for.

Not only do you get a comprehensive analysis of what the current market value of your business is, but you also get the “why” behind the results. Then we go a step further by digging into the marketability and sellability of your company every business has a value, but what’s equally as important is understanding how attractive your business will be to potential buyers once it’s on the market.

NorthStar's Valuation Service Options
Paid Business Market Valuation Services

If you’re not seriously considering the sale of your company at this time and the VSA™ isn’t for you, NorthStar also offers paid market valuation options.  There are numerous instances where you might be in need of a business market valuation, outside of determining an asking price for a sale. Some of these circumstances could include:

•Buying key-person life insurance for top executives

•Asset division in a divorce settlement

•Strategic business planning

•Buying a partner out of their share of the business

NorthStar’s paid business market valuation reports provide the same level of intense analysis
as the VSA™, but with the underlying use of the report driving the scope of the project. The
cost for this report is typically $5,000, but could be slightly higher depending on the size of the
target business and complexity of the financials.

Buy-Side Business Market Valuation Services

Business owners are not the only people that need business valuations!

For every successful business acquisition, there has to be a buyer involved to close
the deal. To that end, we don’t limit our valuation advisory services to just the owners of companies – we also provide paid business market valuation reports to buyers attempting to acquire businesses.

This business market valuation service for buyers is a paid arrangement, delivering a
comprehensive market valuation, as well as an assessment of where we’ve identified risk
factors in the target company’s financials. The cost for this report is typically $5,000, but could
be slightly higher depending on the size of the target business and complexity of the financials.

Certified Business Valuation Services

In some unique cases, business owners are required to produce certified valuations of their companies. While a certified business valuation has many similarities to NorthStar’s VSA™, there are some major distinctions, most notably being the purpose.

Where the VSA™ and other business market valuations are designed to provide owners with market-based information and suggestions of business values, a certified valuation offers a formal, in-depth and legally defensible business appraisal performed by a credentialed professional.

If you find yourself in a situation where a certified business valuation is being mandated,
NorthStar has the resources to help! The cost range for a certified business valuation is
between $10,000 and $25,000, depending on the size of the target business and complexity of
the financials.
